Mindset Impacts Right or Left
Greetings from Oxford England. I was an invited presenter at an EQ conference sharing about the Power of Mindset regarding Emotional Intelligence, Social Intelligence and more. At another time, I’ll share about the impact of mindset with the various intelligences — including IQ.
For now, what has been fun is observing the mindset of driving in the US verse England. Growing up in the US, the right side is the correct side to drive on. But wait — if I grew up in England (and some other countries around the world) I would be convinced that driving on the left side is the correct side! Is either on the truth? the best? the real side? No, our cultural experience of driving established which is the one to use and where.
The other application I noticed is walking on the sidewalk follows the same rules as driving.
What else do we assume is the fact, the best — when really it is just what we learned through culture or family influences? Do you find you are judgmental about certain people? Such as those that dress differently? Or work at a certain job? Or express opinions that differ from yours? Who is right? Can all be accepted? Are you sure?
Catch your initial thought prior to when you correct yourself… You may be surprised. A recent research study indicated that a decision about something is made 7-10 seconds before we are consciously aware of it. That’s why we find ourselves doing or saying things that we later wonder why we did or said ‘that’. When your mindset has one definition and your conscious corrective thought is different— you have to be aware and engage your thinking before you take action or speak which is not always easy to do!
