Conscious Leaders Mindset
The most conscious organizations understand that each individual walks through the door with their own perceptions, opinions and mindsets. The most successful leaders, the conscious leaders, create an organization that channels each individual’s work or career mindset into alignment supporting the purpose and goals of the organization, while at the same time honoring the individual differences.
And conscious leaders exist at all positions in an organization not just the top level. Are you a conscious leader or an unconscious one?
And how can you find out? One way is to reflect on how you handle bad news or project delays. If you react and point fingers of blame, then you are operating from an unconscious state. If you respond by asking more information, exploring the cause, and determining the next action, then you are conscious and choosing your response rather instantly reacting.
When we react without awareness that comes from automatic programs or habits that boil up from the subconscious. Often those reactions were established initially from a previous experience, even something from childhood. The external situation activates that emotional ‘hot button’ and without even thinking, you find yourself reacting. (Sometimes it even feels like a 6 year old child!)
When we respond with awareness, then it indicates that you have chosen to take full responsibility for your life and the new experiences you want to have (rather than repeating old ones out of habit.) Rather than being a victim of the past, you become a master of your present and your future. By responding with awareness, you are open to discovering the rest of the story which often changes how the next action or decision will be made.
This concept of react or respond consciousness can also relate to your level of Emotional Intelligence (EI or EQ). If you are low in Self Awareness or Self Regulation, then you have blind spots regarding your own behavior and the impact it has on other people. Discovering what your current level of Emotional Intelligence is, provides you with a benchmark of where you are as well as what developmental areas to focus on in order to shift your level of awareness.
Being aware allows you to choose differently… To use your intelligence to override your automatic habit. The next step isto change the automatic program completely so that you naturally respond from a perspective of responding and there is no need to override the reactionary habit.
