The 2012 Summer Olympics are in full swing right now.
The Olympics relate with business in many ways, including leadership, goal setting, teamwork, motivation, diversity and much more.
Let’s explore …
For an individual athlete, the Olympics represent:
- hard work
- personal best
- over-coming odds
- mental strength
Every athlete regardless of the sport or the country, experiences each of those emotions, actions and outcomes. That is what I love about the Olympics – the athletes stories of reaching the Games and the challenges that occur during the Games.
Each athlete is pursuing their own personal best. As part of a team, they are supporting their team mates to achieve their best while honoring the strengths and diversity of the team. And they are representing their country as a whole.
Can they all win?
No, as measured by the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals.
Yes, when expanded to embrace all that the Olympic experience means.
There are so many connections to business, look over the list above and reflect how they relate for you:
As a leader, of an organization, department, team or even yourself, …
As a sales person…
As a manager…
As a thought leader…
As a contributor …
What would happen if instead of competing with each other to be the best, everyone focused within to do their personal best and supported each other to achieve the best for the team, department and organization? How much different would that be?
It is time to take the Olympic vision into business. It is time to live your greatness both personally and professionally.
