It seems that just hearing a name for something often activates our mindset about the named item. Assumptions are made; judgements are made; likes and dislikes are established… even before fully understanding the named item. For example, I was recently given a plant that is known as a Chicken Gizzard plant. Wow, now that’s a name that stirs up some assumptions…

Since this blog is focused with the Power of Mindset, I thought it appropriate to express how Mindset is different from skill set.
What is the definition of Mindset? According to Dictionary.com, there are several:
— noun
1. an Attitude, disposition, or mood
2. an Intention or inclination
3. a fixed mental attitude or disposition that predetermines a person’s responses to and interpretations of situations.
What is the definition of skill set? According to a Google search, skill set is a combination of words and is not in Dictionary.com as a single word. Further research revealed:

1. The skills needed to accomplish a specified task or perform a given function.

Welcome to this blog about the Power of Mindset.
Why do a blog about Mindset? In the last 20 years of my personal leadership consulting, an individual’s mindset has consistently been a critical aspect of their success. Often they had the skill set needed for success yet they were not applying what they knew or they behaved in such a way that they sabotaged their progress.
I view mindset as the current frontier of ensuring success. Sure it has been referenced, discussed and approached in various ways over the years. However, what I have observed is that it is often reported that changing a mindset is a hard and difficult process. I agree IF you continue to approach changing a mindset through traditional methods. There are current processes that allow for simple, quick and sustainable change.
