Have you ever figured something out and made a clever comment that actually belittles someone or makes them feel bad? Sometimes we think from our perspective how smart we are while not realizing the impact our comment has on someone else. Which mindset is one that increases your success? Clever and smart (aleck)? Or, Kind and caring?

A recent comment asked about the impact of mindset with individual health… it is huge! And that got me thinking that this post should address that topic.
And as synchronicity would have it, I ended up discovering an article yesterday in Wired Magazine about impact of placebo on drug research. (See Articles link under Pages on this blogs home page to access the article.) Let’s explore placebo, mindset and impact in your life. Read more »

In this post, let’s return to the acronym of Mindset…
In the July 22 post, I shared my game of creating acronyms for words, specifically the word Mindset for this blog. In the August 19 post, I shared my view that Mindset is Made Up. To continue the process:
My acronym for Mindset:
M = Made Up
I = Individual
N = New
D = Different
S = Shift
E = Evolve
T = Truth
Our personal Mindset is Made Up from our Individual experiences and by accepting information. To have a New Mindset, you have to be willing to think and explore Different perceptions which creates a Shift in your Mindset and allows you to Evolve to a new level of Truth for yourself.
Mindset is Individual… Read more »

Several posts ago, I shared my acronym for Mindset. I will use 7 posts to expand on each one. Yet, the posts may occur over a longer period than 7 weeks as I will take the liberty to share a new insight or example of mindset along the way.
My current acronym for Mindset:
M = Made Up
I = Individual
N = New
D = Different
S = Shift
E = Evolve
T = Truth
Our personal Mindset is Made Up from our Individual experiences and by accepting information. To have a New Mindset, you have to be willing to think and explore Different perceptions which creates a Shift in your Mindset and allows you to Evolve to a new level of Truth for yourself.
Our Mindset, whatever it is… about whatever it is about, is Made Up! Read more »

I was going to start breaking out the acronym of Mindset in this blog however the current news frenzy is too rich to pass up…
The most recent has to do with Dr. Gates, Harvard professor, being arrested for something… be it breaking in to his own home, being argumentative with police, or being profiled (I do not pretend to know what occurred).
What was apparent to me and some talk show guests I watched a couple days ago is that there were assumptions made regarding race, specifically black verses white and white verses black. Although the main players in this situation, Dr. Gates and the arresting police officer, are both educated and familiar with diversity and appropriate approaches to situations… the interpretation to date of the situation indicates that both reverted from their intellectual knowledge to cultural reactions.

I have been getting Google alerts for the past year whenever the word Mindset appears in a published article or online news release. I admit I have been amazed at the consistent use of the word and in the broad applications. Everything from sports (golf, basketball, baseball, football, swimming, soccer, etc) to politics (local, state, national and International) to economics (investing, spending, stock market) to education to health to … you get the idea.

Since this blog is focused with the Power of Mindset, I thought it appropriate to express how Mindset is different from skill set.
What is the definition of Mindset? According to Dictionary.com, there are several:
— noun
1. an Attitude, disposition, or mood
2. an Intention or inclination
3. a fixed mental attitude or disposition that predetermines a person’s responses to and interpretations of situations.
What is the definition of skill set? According to a Google search, skill set is a combination of words and is not in Dictionary.com as a single word. Further research revealed:
— noun
1. The skills needed to accomplish a specified task or perform a given function.

Welcome to this blog about the Power of Mindset.
Why do a blog about Mindset? In the last 20 years of my personal leadership consulting, an individual’s mindset has consistently been a critical aspect of their success. Often they had the skill set needed for success yet they were not applying what they knew or they behaved in such a way that they sabotaged their progress.
I view mindset as the current frontier of ensuring success. Sure it has been referenced, discussed and approached in various ways over the years. However, what I have observed is that it is often reported that changing a mindset is a hard and difficult process. I agree IF you continue to approach changing a mindset through traditional methods. There are current processes that allow for simple, quick and sustainable change.
